On 15 February this year at the headquarters of PKP S.A. a meeting of the management of the PKP Group companies with a delegation from Belarusian Railways took place, during which the previous cooperation and prospects for the development of freight transport in 2018 were discussed. The Polish side was represented by representatives of PKP S.A., PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe, PKP Intercity, PKP CARGO and PKP Linia Hutnicza Szerokotorowa.
At the invitation of Krzysztof Mamiński, the President of the Management Board of PKP S.A. (and the President of the Management Board of PKP CARGO S.A.), talks were held between the management of the companies comprising the PKP Group and representatives from Belarusian Railways (Belaruskaya Chygunka) under the leadership of its chief, Vladimir Morozov. During the meeting, the main directions of railway cooperation in various areas of activity were discussed. The chiefs of PKP S.A. and BCz confirmed the will to continue good bilateral cooperation between the railways in the implementation of international rail transport. One of the themes was the organisation of freight transport last year and prospects for its development in 2018, including in the context of modernisation works being carried out by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe in the years 2018-2020.
The meeting also presented the results of the work of the joint working group on the operational analysis of the distribution of loads through the Belarus-Polish border crossings and measures taken to ensure trouble-free train management on the East-West-East routes. One of the discussed concepts was to direct part of the cargoes to the broad-gauge line running through Poland (LHS) and the resumption of freight traffic through the Czeremcha - Wysokie Litewskie border crossing. This is due to the increasing freight transport between Poland and Belarus (including the increase in the number of trains running to and from China), as well as to the fact of investments planned by PKP PLK as part of the LCS Terespol project.
During the meeting, President Krzysztof Mamiński and Mirosław Antonowicz, a board member of PKP S.A., signed an additional agreement to the agreement on mutual settlement between PKP S.A. and the State Union "Belarusian Railways" for rail transport in international transportation.
The meeting confirmed good cooperation between the PKP Group and Belarusian Railways, successfully built over many years, despite many challenges and difficulties.
