PKP CARGO S.A., the largest Polish railway operator, and Lithuanian Railways S.A. are strengthening cooperation in the field of international transport. The agreements that have been signed will improve cargo handling at the railway border crossing between the two countries.
The meeting, which was held in Warsaw, was attended by Polish representatives of PKP CARGO S.A. with the President of the Management Board, Czesław Warsewicz. The Lithuanian side was headed by the Deputy Director General of Lithuanian Railways S.A. - the Director of the Freight Transport Directorate, Egidijus Lazauskas.
The topic of the talks was cooperation in the field of international rail freight transport through the Polish - Lithuanian state border. An annex to the Agreement on cooperation in this field was signed. In addition, they discussed, inter alia, the possibilities of using the potential of the Lithuanian station Mockawa and the Kaunas intermodal terminal in handling container trains from China via Lithuania to Poland, as well as issues related to the digitisation of shipping documents and the use of the CIM consignment note for the carriage of cargo destined for the territory of the EU.
- Our cooperation with our Lithuanian partners is going well. Maintaining operational contacts makes it easier to solve diagnosed problems and improves the quality of our work while handling freight at the interface between the 1520mm and 1435mm rail systems. I am convinced that together we will be able to carry out successfully the planned tasks - said Czesław Warsewicz, President of the Management Board of PKP CARGO S.A.
